Matthew McConaughey returns to the big screen after six-year hiatus
AUSTIN, Texas (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - For the last six years, if you want to see Matthew McConaughey, you don't go to the movies. You go to Austin FC games or University of Texas (UT) football games, but that changed Monday night.
For the first time since 2019, the actor is back on the big screen for "The Rivals of Amziah King," which premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas.
He says the film reminded him of how much he loves performing, and how thrilled he is to be releasing the film in his hometown and at the festival, where he has a long history.
"I'm always a little nervous when I get in front of the camera. I'm even a little nervous on the last day of shooting. I always want a little bit of nerves because I don't want to feel like I completely know what the hell I'm doing. I want to still be wondering just to keep me on edge," McConaughey expressed.
"The Rivals of Amziah King" is about a honey farmer in rural Oklahoma who is trying to reconnect with his estranged foster daughter while rivals in the ruthless honey game are threatening to destroy everything he's built.
