Sunday marks 102 years of the first Winter Olympic games
(CNN, KYMA) - Sunday marks the 102nd anniversary of the first Winter Olympics.
The competition was held at Chamonix in the French Alps on January 25, 1924. There were 14 events involving six sports.
The competition was known at the time as the "International Winter Sports Week." Four years later, the International Olympic Committee officially designated the Winter Games.
That year, the competition took place in Saint Moritz, Switzerland, and the 25th edition of the Winter Olympics kicks off in Milan, Italy on February 6.
The games will last more than two weeks.
