Four firefighters, pastor injured in fiery church explosion in New York

BOONVILLE, N.Y. (CBS, KYMA) - Four firefighters and a pastor were injured after an explosion at a church in Boonville, New York caused a fire Tuesday.

Drone footage captured by Boonville Police Chief David Olney shows fire crews battling the inferno Tuesday afternoon.

According to Abundant Life Fellowship, the church’s pastor and another congregation member were at the church and had called the propane company for an "obvious gas leak" prior to the explosion, which was still under investigation as of Tuesday evening.

"The two of them and a few other responders were in the building at the time of the explosion. They have burns that need medical attention," the church said.

Five individuals were taken to hospitals in Syracuse and Utica and were in "critical but stable condition," local media reported.

"Our building is a total loss," the church said.
