Popcorn machine catches fire during college basketball game

NORMAN, Okla. (CBS, KYMA) - A fire that erupted from a popcorn machine caused a brief delay during a college basketball game between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday.

The blaze broke out at a concession stand in the first few minutes of the contest, spreading plumes of smoke inside the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.

Footage captured by Lydia Holder shows the inferno burning for a short period, before a sprinkler system activated to douse the fire. Spectators are seen scrambling to get away from the flames.

According to news outlets, the Norman Fire Department responded as a precaution. Officials said the fire was contained to the machine and did not spread beyond the concession area.

The game continued after a brief delay, with the Sooners going on to beat the Bulldogs 94-76.
