Firefighters prepare for summer fires in Imperial County

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Fire departments from all over Imperial County got together to work on a multi-agency and met at the Cattle Call Arena in Brawley for a mock scenario of a vegetation fire.

"It's a refresher obviously on tactics and deploying the synchrony between agencies. Let's say for whatever reason we need to intermingle agencies, everyone will feel comfortable as far as knowing that a person from a different agency has the same level of understanding what the mission is and what needs to be done," said Deputy Chief Juan Rodelo with the Brawley Fire Department.

The exercise consisted of three different drills including creating water lines to be used to extinguish the fire.

"One of the excuses was a water bar, which diverts water in areas that you don't want water to come, if there is like a house and you don't want water to create a waterslide you divert the water out," said Captain Marvin Centeno with the Imperial County Fire Department.

The multi-agency drill lasted for three days and started on Monday.

Deputy Chief Rodelo says a plan for another drill is already in the works. This time involving law enforcement agencies.
