Fire damages five condos

Fire was believed to originate from one of the condo's bathroom ventilation fan

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A fire damaged five condos Wednesday morning.

After 9 a.m., the residential fire was reported to the Yuma Fire Department (YFD) in the area of West Sahuaro Lane and South Cholla Drive.

Firefighters found the fire in the bathroom and attic space in a unit at Villa Viejo Condominiums and believe the fire originated from one of the unit's bathroom ventilation fans.

According to YFD, the fire spread throughout a common attic and ended up affecting four units with significant fire damage and another unit with a large amount of water damage.

Five condos were damaged and are unable to be reoccupied, said YFD.

Multiple agencies helped extinguish the fire and over 50 fire department personnel were at the scene.

One cat was rescued, and one occupant of the originating condo was evaluated at the scene and taken to the hospital.

A two-year-old occupant of the originating condo was evaluated but not taken to the hospital.

YFD also said there were two minor firefighter injuries.
