Wildfire Awareness Week

Wildfire Awareness Week continues through Saturday, April 2nd

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - This Wildfire Awareness Week, the Yuma Fire Department (YFD) wants you to prepare for any possible fires by keeping on high alert.

YFD says our daily weather conditions can play a huge role in sparking and spreading fires due to strong winds and hotter temperatures.

So if you're planning to start a fire for a BBQ or other activities, make sure to take extra precautions.

“Have extreme caution with anything you are doing off-road keeping that exhaust system from your vehicle away from dry vegetation and even around your home things like keeping down the dead dry vegetation and if you are doing any outside barbecuing things like that make sure it’s away from any dry vegetation or debris,” said PIO for Yuma Fire Department Mike Erfert.

Always make sure campfires are completely out before leaving and keep track of no-burn days.

If you see any fires it’s encouraged to report them by dialing 911.

YFD will post daily fire information as well days for no-burn days on their social media pages.
