Two people shot, including an officer, near Notre Dame campus

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (NBC, KYMA) - Two people have been shot, including an officer, near Notre Dame's campus Saturday night.

A search is underway for the suspected gunman.

According to officials, a woman and a police officer were shot after a fight broke out near eddy street and Angela Boulevard.

Both individuals were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.

A third person was also injured but police say it was not by gunfire, it may have happened during the fight.

Officers are looking for the suspected gunman who fled from the scene.

The suspect is described as a heavyset black male with dreadlocks. He was wearing blue shorts, a black shirt with a red and blue design on the front, and one white shoe.

Notre Dame officials said there is no continued threat to the campus and a temporary shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

However the Eddy Street Commons where the shooting took place remains an active crime scene and people have been asked to avoid the area.

The Notre Dame fighting Irish and the Michigan State Spartans were facing off in a college football game when the incident occurred.
