Former CIA officer found with more than $40 million in gold bars working on a plea deal

(NBC, KYMA) - A former CIA senior officer, who authorities say was found with more than 300 gold bars worth $40 million in his Virginia home, is working on a plea deal.

David rush was charged with one count of theft of public funds, but court documents indicate rush and the justice department have a quote, "Plea agreement in principle."

Rush's lawyers and the DOJ are asking a judge to extend a deadline on the case through early October to reach an agreement on a statement of the facts.

NBC news has reported the CIA placed senior officials on leave after Rush's arrest.
