FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking heat and humidity through Friday

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through Friday for the hot and very humid conditions. I am tracking cooler temperatures for the weekend and next week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Record high TIED in El Centro this afternoon. El Centro reached 113 degrees tying the record high for today's date of 113 degrees that was set back in 1968.

Yuma didn't tie or break a record for today, but it sure was warm and very humid.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Desert Southwest until 8 p.m. FRIDAY for both Yuma and Imperial Counties.

Highs will be between 106-112 degrees with overnight lows in the low 80s and low 90s. It is also going to be humid making it feel even hotter. Our "feels like" temperatures will be between 105-116 degrees.

We have major heat risk and little to no relief from this heat, so it is important to practice heat safety all hours of the day.

Dew points will stay too high to our liking for the rest of the week with dew points in the 70s and 60s. This will make it feel so much hotter. Mornings and nights will feel the most muggiest.

We have a ridge of high pressure staying in place bringing in the heat and moisture into the Desert Southwest. I am also keeping an eye on chance for shower and storm activity later this week and into the weekend being possible.

As the week continues I am tracking a few passing clouds here and there with chance for isolated showers and storms being possible.

On our futuretrack hour-by-hour, we may see some light showers and sprinkles moving through the area in the afternoon hours. Not everyone will see rain, and those that do it will be very light.

Also, we are in for breezier conditions Friday afternoon and evening as winds will be coming from the south with gusts between 20-25 MPH. It will be a breezy Friday and Saturday.

Weather Authority First Alert Action Days are in place through Friday for the heat and humidity. Temperatures aren't the hottest temperatures we have had this year, but the humidity will in high UV Index levels.

Tracking breezier conditions later this week and into the weekend with slight chances for showers and storms that may pop-up. Thankfully, temperatures will cool back down this weekend and next week.
