Thousands still without power after tornadoes rip through the Detroit area

DETROIT, Mich. (NBC, KYMA) - Thousands of people are still without power in the Detroit area this holiday weekend.

After several tornadoes hit the region on Thursday. Detroit's east side was hit particularly hard.

A spokesman for DTE Energy says some utility crews have been working around the clock to restore power.

By Saturday morning, crews had restored power to 388,000 customers.

But as of Saturday afternoon, there were still almost 80,000 people without power.
