Student armed at Westview High School in Nebraska in custody

BENNINGTON, Neb. (NBC, KYMA) - One student is in custody after reportedly having a firearm at a school in Bennington, Nebraska.

The report prompted Westview High School to be placed on lockdown around 2:30 p.m. as officers responded to the scene.

According to officials, the student was taken into custody without incident but the reported firearm was not located.

Police are continuing their search of the school and investigation into the report.

During a short press conference, officials reiterated that no threats of violence had been made to the property or any persons.

They're still inside right now conducting conducting follow-up investigation, trying to locate the firearm at this point.

Students were dismissed from the school at about 3:15 p.m. and after school sports games will proceed as scheduled.

An investigation into the report is on going.
