FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking ongoing heat and extreme heat warning extended to Wednesday

Tracking a hot start to the week with ongoing extreme heat. A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day and Extreme Heat Warning is extended through Wednesday for now.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - An Extreme Heat Warning is EXTENDED until 8 p.m. Wednesday for parts of the Desert Southwest due to major heat risks.

Highs will be between 109-116 degrees, and overnight lows between 84-93 degrees.

This evening will be very toasty with lows in the upper 80s and low 90s. Remember to still practice heat safety during the evening and nighttime hours.

The humidity isn't letting up; dew points will stay elevated and sticky. Making it feel even hotter.

A ridge of high pressure will be keeping the Desert Southwest hot with above-normal temperatures and also high humidity.

This ridge will strengthen back during the week, bringing back intense heat later this week.

Temperatures will stay hot all week long. A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is EXTENDED until 8 pm Wednesday for now, but will most likely get extended through the weekend due to the hotter temperatures still ahead.

Tracking more brutal heat to return later this week and into the weekend with highs nearing 120.

It's going to be a long week with extreme heat. Make sure to practice heat safety all hours of the day as we will have little to no relief even at night.

TRACKING THE TROPICS: We have our first major hurricane in the Pacific. Hurricane Geneiveve is Categority 4 just yesterday, and just this morning Genevieve strengthened into a Category 5 with sustained winds of 160 MPH.
