FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking extreme and dangerous heat through Thursday

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect due to extreme heat through Thursday across the Desert Southwest. Tracking major heat risks, remember to practice heat safety.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- An Extreme Heat Warning is NOW in effect for the entire Desert Southwest until 8 p.m. Thursday due to major heat risks. Highs will be between 109-117 degrees with lows between 80 and 90 degrees.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is also in effect until Thursday night due to this dangerous heat and potential for heat-related illnesses.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect for parts of Imperial County until 8 p.m. tonight due high ozone levels.

It is going to be a very warm night ahead as we will have no relief from this heat even after the sun goes down. Overnight lows will be trending in the 80s by tomorrow morning.

Remember to practice heat safety to prevent heat-related illnesses at all hours of the day, as we won't have much relief or a break from the heat evening during the night time hours.

A very strong ridge of high pressure will settle and dominate the region this week, bringing in the summer heat.

Tracking sunny and hot conditions through the workweek. A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day will remain in place until Thursday.

We are in for some slight changes by the weekend as I am tracking slightly cooler temperatures and breezier conditions. I am also watching out for any shower and thunderstorm potential maybe on the way. Stay tuned!
