Arizona Senate President enters Arizona Attorney General race

WARREN PETERSEN

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Republican Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen is running for Arizona attorney general, saying his experience in the Legislature has prepared him to take on the role.

Petersen, who has served at the Capitol for 14 years, said his priorities would include public safety, defending Arizona laws and restoring confidence in elections.

“I’m ready to take Arizona back to what it should be,” Petersen said. “Focus on keeping Arizona safe, defending our laws, protecting Arizonans.”

Petersen also said he would expand Arizona’s Election Integrity Unit if elected, arguing the office should play a stronger role in maintaining trust in the state’s election system.

He additionally called on Arizona’s Independent Redistricting Commission to revisit the state’s political maps following recent court rulings and legal questions surrounding the use of race in the redistricting process.

“All the maps that use race are unconstitutional,” Petersen said. “The redistricting commission did use race as part of its decision making and drawing the lines.”

Throughout the interview, Petersen contrasted his vision for the office with that of the current attorney general, saying he would place a greater focus on crime and public safety.

“I don’t want Arizona to turn into California,” Petersen said. “And I feel like the current attorney general is taking us down that path.”

Petersen described himself as a lifelong conservative focused on protecting liberty, freedom and public safety in Arizona.

Arizona voters will choose the state’s next attorney general in November 2026.
