U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks resigns effective immediately

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The head of the U.S. Border Patrol is leaving the agency in the latest shake-up of immigration enforcement leadership within the Trump Administration.

Chief Michael "Mike" Banks announced he was resigning effective immediately in an interview with Fox News, telling Fox, "It's just time."

During the interview, Banks mentioned he "got the ship back on course" and now the border is "the most secure."

The White House did not immediately comment on the development. However, Bank stepping down is the latest leadership shake-up of officials implementing the president's immigration crackdown.

Banks' resignation comes at the same time ICE is also going through a leadership transition.

He returned to Border Patrol last year and has kept a relatively low public profile.

It is not clear who will replace Chief Mike Banks.
