One member rescued after fighter jet shot down over Iran

U.S. Air National Guard

WASHINGTON (CBS) - CBS news has confirmed that one member of an F-15 fighter jet shot down over Iran Friday has been rescued.

U.S forces are still searching for the second crew member, but so are the Iranians, with the governor of the region where the plane went down saying anyone who captures or kills the crew will be "specially commended by the government."

Iran claimed Friday its forces shot down an American fighter jet over the southwestern part of the country.

Two sources confirmed to CBS News a search an rescue effort is underway for a downed U.S. F-15 fighter jet and social media video showed a refueling plane and two helicopters flying low over the area consistent with a search and rescue mission.

It comes as Iranian state media also said at least eight civilians were killed and 95 others wounded when U.S. airstrike hit a new bridge near Tehran.

President Trump posted video of the strike on social media Thursday.

And late Thursday night he made another post threatening the U.S.military hasn't even started destroying what's left in Iran, saying bridges and electric power plants are next if the regime doesn't make a deal.

While President Trump initially called on the people of Iran to take back their government, Iran experts say, one month later, expanding strikes on the country's civilian infrastructure could backfire.

Iran's ability to hit back is still in tact for now. A drone hit an oil refinery in Kuwait Friday sending thick black smoke billowing into the air.

President Trump submitted a budget proposal to congress Friday which includes a $1.5 trillion request for the Pentagon. That's a 42% increase from last year.
