Tracking unseasonable and record heat for early March

Weather Authority/ KYMA

A very strong ridge of high pressure will be sticking around, keeping our temperatures well-above-normal through the weekend. Tracking triple-digits and more record heat for next week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The 90s are back! This is already about 15-degrees above-average for this time of year. And temperatures are only going to get hotter.

A strong and ridge of high pressure here and it will be sticking around, keeping our temperatures above average and near record levels.

There are many visitors and seasonal residents in our region that are not use to this type of heat, so it's important to practice heat safety and know the signs and symptoms for heat-related illnesses.

Temperatures are heating up. I am tracking mid and upper 90s through the weekend, with our first round of triple-digits by next week. Daily record highs are looking pretty likely for multiple days starting later this week.

Widespread Minor Heat Risk is expected later this week, and we will increase into Moderate Heat Risks by next week as highs will heat up into the low 100s.

A another and an even stronger ridge is expected to build next week, pushing highs even hotter late next week. These type of temperatures and heat are very unseasonable, and it's a big deal to see triple-digits for early March.

It may seem pretty early to hit triple-digit temperatures, but the earliest on record for Yuma is March 12, 1916.

El Centro's earliest on record to hit triple-digits is on March 15th, 1934.
