Tracking a significant warm-up and record temperatures

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Temperatures are on the rise! Get ready for unseasonable and record heat. Tracking our first round of triple-digits on the way.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Today was a little warmer than yesterday with daytime highs in the 80s.

As we go into the evening, it will be feeling warm for a little bit longer, but going to be pleasant with cooling temperatures, clear skies, and light winds. Great weather to spend time on the patio, enjoy it because in the day ahead evening will also be getting warmer.

A strong and unseasonable ridge of high pressure is going to be moving in, leading to a rapid warm-up with temperatures expecting to be 15-25 degrees above average and near record levels.

Plenty of sunshine will be with us across the Desert Southwest, but temperatures are heating up. I am tracking upper 90s for this week, with our first round of triple-digits by next week. Daily record highs are looking pretty likely for multiple days starting later this week.

Widespread Minor Heat Risk is expected later this week, and we will increase into Moderate Heat Risks by next week as highs will heat up into the low 100s.

An even stronger ridge is expected to build later next week, pushing highs even hotter late next week. These type of temperatures and heat are very unseasonable, and it's a big deal to see triple-digits for early March.

With this incoming heat, make sure to prepare for these temperatures. There are many visitors and seasonal residents in our region that are not use to this type of heat, so it's still important to practice heat safety and know the signs and symptoms for heat-related illnesses.

And remember to NEVER leave children or pets in the car at any time of the day.
