Tracking a big warm-up this week

Weather Authority/ KYMA

A ridge of high pressure moves in over the Desert Southwest, resulting in high temperatures climbing to the 90s and nearing record territory this week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Happy Monday! Starting off the week, with calm, dry, and warmer than normal temperatures.

You will notice evenings are going to feel a little warmer. That's because we have a big warming trend this week. With this warm-up, evenings will still be nice with calm conditions.

It’s going to be a warm final week of February. A ridge of high pressure will dominate the Desert Southwest this week, leading to well-above-normal temperatures.

90-degree afternoons are in the forecast starting by the middle of the week, with a potential for daily records may be reached or close. The best chance we may reach record levels is Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned.

With the unseasonably warm weather this week, we have minor heat risks and make sure to stay hyrdrated and take shade breaks if you are going to be outdoors for a long period of time.

Temperatures in the 90s for late February are rare, but not unheard of. Take a look at our First 90-degree Day stats below. However, Yuma and El Centro did hit 90-degrees last February.
