FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking showers and gusty winds for Presidents Day

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Tracking a few active lower-pressure systems bringing in showers, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures for the first half of the week to the Desert Southwest.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- A strong winter storm is arriving today, and it will bring significant rainfall and snow within our region. But for the Desert Southwest, we will have light shower potential and gusty winds.

That's why a Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through early tomorrow morning because of the active weather and possible wet roads and blowing dust that could lead to travel concerns.

Strong southerly winds will be picking up this afternoon, and there is a Wind Advisory in effect for parts of the Desert Southwest through 1 a.m. Tuesday for gusts between 45-55 MPH.

Even the areas that aren't included in wind alerts, it will still be pretty breezy and windy with gusts up to 30 MPH.

Widespread blowing dust and unhealthy air quality could be a concern even for Yuma and Imperial Counties.

We have rain potential in our area tonight. It's looking to be pretty light and enough to make the roads slippery.

Rain totals are looking a tenth of an inch or less in parts of the Desert Southwest. Higher amounts are possible for Ocotillo.

I am tracking another weather system to move in on Wednesday bring us another round of winds and dust, plus cooler than normal temperatures.

We will continue to have breezy conditions and slight rain chances through midweek, along with highs staying in the upper 60s through Friday. Tracking warmer, clearer, and calmer conditions just in time for the weekend.

Another big warm-up will move in with highs returning to the 80s early next week.
