Senate holds vote for DHS funding bill

(KYMA) - The Senate held a vote Thursday to prevent a partial shutdown.

The vote was to fund government agencies, while Senate Democrats argue for immigration enforcement reforms following the shooting of Alex Pretti.

Reports say the White House may be open to making a deal with Democrats to avoid another government shutdown.

President Trump held a cabinet meeting with his administration facing backlash over the shooting in Minnesota, with discussions about funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

"Hopefully we won't have a shutdown and we're working on that right now. I think we're getting close. The democrats I don't believe, want to see it either," said President Trump.

The list of Democrat demands in the DHS bill include:

• An end to roving patrols
• Tightening rules on warrants
• Requiring body cameras
• Prohibiting masks

Senate Republicans have argued the current DHS bill already has reforms including money for body cameras and de-escalation training.

Since the House had already approved the funding package, any changes to it would require the House to return to D.C. and consider it.
