Former Border Patrol agent sentenced in bribery scheme
TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA) - A Border Patrol agent was found guilty for a bribery scheme and was previously convicted of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud.
54-year-old Jorge J. Jimenez of Nogales, Arizona was sentenced to over six years in prison with a fine of $15,000.
During the trial, it was revealed Jimenez was working at the I-19 Checkpoint between June 2024 and October 2024.
He worked alongside two people from Mexico to allow certain vehicles to pass the checkpoint without inspection.
Jimenez was expected to be paid about $20,000 to allow the vehicles through.
"U.S. Border Patrol officers take an oath to protect our Homeland Security. Today's sentencing makes a clear statement that corruption within those ranks will be identified, and those individuals will be held accountable. We are grateful for the cooperation from our law enforcement partners," said DHS Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari, Ph.D.
