Gusty today, with cooler temperatures for the first weekend of October

An area of low pressure moves in, bringing in stronger winds today. We will have slightly breezy conditions that will linger into Saturday, but temperatures will cool below normal this weekend. It’s going to be a FANTASTIC weekend ahead.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Happy Friday! It's October 3rd! We have breezy and windy conditions taking over the Desert Southwest this evening.

There's a Wind Advisory in effect Imperial Valley and El Centro until midnight tonight. The southwest corner of Imperial County, which includes Ocotillo will stay in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

These are for strong west winds with gusts reaching 40-55 MPH. This could bring difficult driving conditions, so drive with caution while behind the wheel.

Strong winds and dust will be impacting across the area through tomorrow morning with gusts ranging from 20-35 MPH. Gustier winds will favor toward the west.

Winds will thankfully be lighter tomorrow, but we still could feel a little breeze with gusts reaching 20 MPH.

Tacos and Tunes kicks off TODAY, in Downtown Yuma! If you are heading out there this evening, I am tracking cool temps, but breezy conditions. So make sure to bring a light jacket if you are heading out.

Overnight lows will be cool and drop into the low and mid-60s by tomorrow morning.

A low-pressure system will move through the Desert Southwest this weekend, bringing a dry cold front. This is the reason for the strong winds today and cooler temperatures this weekend.

Temperatures will cool into the low 90s and even upper 80s this weekend, which is below normal for early October. If you are heading to Tacos and Tunes tomorrow, temperatures and weather conditions will be GREAT and comfortable!

Nice and cool weather will carry into next week, but tracking more clouds and possible rain chances late next week.

LOOKING AHEAD: It's still too far out, but the Desert Southwest could see above-normal rainfall late next week. There is a possibility that a tropical storm may develop in the Eastern Pacific next week, which would be named Priscilla. And the remnants of the developing tropical storm are expected to be picked up by an incoming trough dropping down the West Coast, bringing in rain chances late next week. This isn’t set in stone, so I will keep tracking and bring updates as we get closer. So we will see!
