Fake inspectors found at Mexicali restaurants

MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA) - Employees at CANIRAC in Mexicali are being trained to identify those with proper security.

Alan Valenzuela, president of the business chamber, mentioned there are extortionists who operate over the phone, posing as members of organized crime and inspectors.

"When we approach the authorities, they teach us what the regulations are, inspect us, and in case of an inspection, we are happy to welcome it, and completely avoid and eliminate extortion by pseudo-inspectors," said Valenzuela.

Through phone calls alone, at least five cases were reported in the month of July, with amounts ranging from 10,000 to 80,000 pesos being deposited by these thieves.

According to authorities, those who carry out inspections at establishments must have a warrant, as well as identification with a QR code.
