Three dead, three injured in casino shooting in Reno
RENO, Nev. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - At least three people are dead and several others were injured by gunfire after a man opened fire with a handgun outside the Grand Sierra Resort Casino in Reno Monday morning.
Multiple police agencies blocked off portions of the Grand Sierra Resort Monday after a shooter opened fire killing three people and injuring three others.
Throughout the evening, an NBC affiliate in the Sacramento area watched police fly drones into the air over the area where police say the shooting happened, focusing their investigation near the valet entrance as well as the resort's parking lot.
Evidence markers could be seen scattered around the parking lot.
The NBC affiliate spoke to a witness from Lincoln off camera who was leaving the resort with her mother-in-law when the shooting happened.
Denise Snider says she saw the suspected shooter walk up carrying a black bag, then dropping it on the ground before firing.
She says the gun jammed for a moment, something police described during a news conference.
"The suspect's firearm malfunctioned. However, he was able to make it operable. Once operable, the suspect fired multiple time at the group of victims at valet," said Chief Chris Crawforth with the Sparks Police Department.
As the suspect starting shooting rapidly, Snider and her mother-in-law dropped their luggage and ran to their car for cover.
The NBC affiliate also spoke to a woman, Vennisa Crutcher, in the area who was shocked by everything that happened.
"I was in shock. I couldn't believe that it happened here. I guess there's been a lot of shootings here. I was in disbelief...God bless them and I hope they heal very well and prayers with them," Crutcher expressed.
