NASA releases stunning close-ups of the Sun

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - We're getting an incredible new look at the Sun thanks to NASA's Parker Solar Probe.

The probe snapped these remarkable images from just about 3.8 million miles away from the solar surface, the closest any spacecraft has ever gotten to the Sun.

The new close-ups show the solar wind, a constant stream of electrically charged particles flowing outward from the Sun.

Scientists say the images could help them better understand the mysteries of the solar wind and how it impacts life here on Earth.

The Parker Solar Probe made its closest pass late last year, and NASA just released the new photos on Thursday.
