Colombian nationals accused of burglary
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The Scottsdale Police Department is revealing more information on how they arrested seven Colombian nationals accused of committing two home burglaries.
The operation included four days of constant surveillance over the group of organized criminals from Colombia who have no citizenship right here in the U.S.
Maricopa County Attorney General Rachel Mitchell said that it was very important to her that these people remain in jail, given they have no ties to the Arizona community or country more broadly.
"We want to send a very strong message that Maricopa County Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa are not places that you want to come to commit crimes," said Mitchell during a press conference. "If you do come here from other states or other countries, plan to stay. We're gonna keep you in on bond and we're going to punish you with prison or jail."
All seven members are facing felony burglary charges. They were in search of designer purses, jewelry, cash, and other items that could be sold for money. They're now being held in jail on a $150,000 cash bond.
