Tracking unseasonable and record temperatures this week

An unseasonable and strong ridge of high pressure will continue to dominate the region this week warming our temperatures near the triple-digit mark with daily record highs being possible.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - An unseasonably strong high pressure will take over the Desert Southwest this week, resulting in well above-normal and near-record high temperatures.

NEW DAILY RECORDS BROKEN!!!! Yuma and El Centro broke today's daily record highs this afternoon. Yuma hit 97°, breaking the record of 96° that was set back in 2008. And El Centro hit 96°, beating their record of 93° that was set back in 1988. These temps are around 15 degrees above normal for this time of year.

I am tracking more record-breaking temperatures again tomorrow.

Temperatures will trend 10-15 degrees above normal through the majority of week, as highs will climb near the triple-digit mark on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Plus, daily record high temperatures will be close or could be broken throughout the week.

A cooling trend during the latter half of the week will push high temperatures back into the eighties by Friday as dry conditions and calm winds continue.

Even though our temperatures aren't the hottest we have experienced here in the Desert Southwest, we still have minor to moderate heat risks that can impact us throughout the day especially those that are sensitive and vulnerable to the heat.
