Family of local agent file to sue Sinaloa Cartel after 1985 murder

(KYMA, KECY) - The family of a local Drug Enforcement Administration special agent, who was kidnapped and murdered in 1985, is suing the Sinaloa Cartel along with three indicted cartel founders.

The family of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena filed the multi-case civil action lawsuit in California federal court on Thursday.

The action taken was made possible by President Trump's recent executive order, classifying several Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Camarenas' family says this finally allowed them to seek justice and make cartels pay the price for their crimes.

Camarena was born in Mexicali and grew up in Calexico.
