Local hero rescues elderly woman from garage fire in Yuma Foothills

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A fire in the Mesa Del Sol complex of the Yuma Foothills Wednesday afternoon sparked quick action from neighbors and a passerby, resulting in a remarkable rescue.

Rural Metro Fire Responded to the scene after a garage fire spread to a car parked in the driveway.

Everyone inside the home made it out safely, thanks to the swift action of neighbors and a local hero.

The homeowner was cooking inside when a neighbor aggressively knocked on the door to warn her about the fire.

Colin Savage, who was driving his niece home, also noticed the flames and immediately sprang into action.

He rescued an elderly woman from the house, carrying her out of the building.

"I was literally just driving, dropping off my niece at her house. I look in the corner of my eye and I literally see a house on fire. There was a lady outside screaming for help, so I just did what I had to do," said Colin Savage, the man who rescued the homeowner.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
