Monsoonal moisture still hanging around before drier and hotter days move in

Weather Authority/ KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Isolated showers and thunderstorms will begin retreating into mountainous areas through Wednesday, then exit the region completely late in the week.

For us here in the Desert Southwest we did have some storm pop-ups in southern Imperial County in Calexico and El Centro earlier this evening.

Taking a look back at July, it was a HOT one where we had more days above normal and only 4 days out of the month where it was cooler than our seasonal average.

Back in July, Yuma tied a record along with having overnight lows of 85 degrees or higher 20 days in a row.

Today is the first day of August, which means it will be our first full moon for the month and thankfully we will have mostly clear skies to get a glimpse of August's Supermoon.

Weather conditions will be warm, humid, and breezy for the rest of tonight.

Strengthening high pressure will begin to build throughout the week resulting in drier and hotter days later this week.

As a result, near-normal temperatures today will begin a steady warming trend eventually topping 110+ degrees in the area by Friday.
