Woman allegedly attempts to stab a 61-year-old man at local Starbucks

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A 42-year-old woman was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for evaluation before being booked into the Imperial County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and elderly abuse.

El Centro Police Dispatch received a call on Friday, July 14 at 8:20 a.m. about a 42-year-old woman allegedly attempting to stab a 61-year-old man in the parking lot of a Starbucks.

El Centro police said the reporting party saw the woman carrying a knife and that both the man and woman left the area before officers arrived.

Police officers then found the woman walking on the 300 block of Wake Avenue.

According to El Centro police, when they found her, the 42-year-old woman pressed the knife to her throat and threatened to kill herself.

Officers secured the area, and the El Centro Police Department's Crisis Negotiations team was able to convince the woman to surrender the knife and arrested her without further incident at 8:57 a.m.

El Centro police said they were able to find the 61-year-old man and contacted him.

The 61-year-old man said he stopped at the Starbucks on his way home when the 42-year-old woman entered the passenger side of his vehicle with a knife and attempted to stab him, said El Centro police.

The man was able to defend himself before the woman left the vehicle and walked away, and the elderly man did not call the police to report the incident and received no major injuries.
