WEATHER ALERT: Extreme and near record heat for the weekend
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - An Excessive Heat Warning has been EXTENDED for the entire Desert Southwest until next Wednesday as highs could reach up to 120 degrees.
A strong ridge will continue to dominate the Desert Southwest through at least early next week bringing EXTREME Heat Risk to the Desert Southwest.
Remember excessive heat is very dangerous and could even be deadly, so make sure to know the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness and take action when necessary.
Don't forget about our other heat safety tips: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, reduce time in the sun, stay in cool air-conditioned buildings, and check on the elderly, kids, and pets.
The Imperial County APCD has EXTENDED an Air Quality Alert for the Imperial Valley due to high levels of ozone (smog).
The Air Quality Alert is in effect Friday, July 14, from 10 am to 8 pm, and Saturday, July 15, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
By the weekend, Yuma and El Centro could tie or break records for both daytime highs and overnight lows in the coming days.
