Heatwave is coming: Hotter days ahead

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Heading into the weekend temperatures will stay near average through Sunday before hotter days begin early next week.

During the evening hours Saturday and Sunday breezy condition will be possible with gusts 20-25 MPH.

The Imperial County APCD has issued an air quality alert for the Imperial Valley due to high levels of ozone (smog) for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For next week, as high pressure strengthens over the region leading to even hotter conditions which will bring major to extreme Heat Risk concerns.

An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for the expected hot temperatures next week which includes the Desert Southwest.

Take a look below at our uptrend with afternoon high temperatures.

If you can stay in air-conditioned buildings if possible and if spending any time outdoors remember to practice heat safety:

  • Drink plenty of water (stay hydrated)
  • Reduce your time in the sun by taking frequent shade breaks
  • Wear loose and light colored clothing
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness
  • Check on the elderly, kids, and pets
