Weather Alert: Hot & Breezy for 4th of July

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - A strong ridge of high pressure will continue to dominate the overall weather pattern through the remainder of this week and through this weekend.

The Excessive Heat Warning has been extended for the Desert Southwest through Friday where highs are expected to reach 111-116 degrees.

For the Fourth of July expect temperatures to be HOT with not much relief from the heat during the evening and overnight hours.

If spending outdoors for Fourth of July activities make sure to take proper precautions and use heat safety tips:

-Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated

-Take frequent shade breaks and reduce time in the sun

-Lather up in sunscreen

-Wear loose and light colored clothing

This evening, breezier conditions will also be in the forecast where gusts across the area will range from 20-30 MPH.

Breezy conditions are expected each afternoon this week which will result in elevated fire weather concerns.

With the dry, hot, and breezy weather don't forget about fire safety tips.

For the rest of the work week highs of 110+degrees are expected with slightly cooler days by the weekend, only to back up early next week.
