Supervisors unanimously approve $577.5 million budget

The budget increased by 15% from last year, but the Supervisors did not increase the tax rate

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - The $577.5 million county budget was approved unanimously on Monday.

It’s a 15% increase from last year, but the Yuma County Board of Supervisors did not increase the tax rate. The increase in this year's budget is coming from an increase in property values around the county.

The county says owners of a house worth around $130,000 could expect to pay an extra $22 in property taxes this year.

By decreasing the tax rate for the general fund, and keeping taxes lower than the maximum rate allowed, the county is doing its best to offset the increase.

“The board has adopted a levy well below the allowable amount for the last 11 years,” County Administrator Ian McGuaghey said.

The budget also includes pay raises for employees, road repairs, and funding for nonprofits.
