Brittney Griner released from Russian prison via prisoner swap
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - WNBA star Brittney Griner was released from Russian detention via prisoner swap.
The swap was Griner for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, said President Joe Biden.
Griner was facing a 9-year prison sentence over drug smuggling charges and has been detained since February of this year.
White House officials say Griner has spoken with Biden over the phone about her release.
Biden is expected to speak at 8:30 a.m. ET which is 10:30 a.m. MST, the White House said.
Griner's wife Cherelle is with the President at the White house, according to a source familiar with the matter.
