Trump Organization found guilty on all counts of criminal tax fraud
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Two trump companies were found guilty Tuesday on all counts against them in a criminal tax fraud trial.
The charges against the Trump Corporation and Trump Payroll Corporation were connected to a 15-year scheme where top executives failed to report and pay taxes on compensation.
The entities were found guilty of three counts of criminal tax fraud, scheme to defraud, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, and several counts of falsifying business records.
The Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp. could face up to $1.6 million in fines.
Former President Donald Trump and his family were not charged in this case, but prosecutors say Trump sanctioned the illegal dealings.
The defense argued the top executives involved were rogue actors.
Sentencing is scheduled for mid-January and the Trump Organization attorneys say they plan to appeal.
Donald Trump says he is "disappointed" by the verdict.
