DOJ stepping in against several e-cigarette companies
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - The Justice Department is taking legal action against six companies that make e-cigarettes.
This is the first time the DOJ has sought permanent injunctions against these manufacturers on the behalf of the Food and Drug Administration.
According to a statement from the FDA, the six e-cig makers in question didn't submit the mandatory pre-market applications for their products.
The federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act says companies have to submit applications to the FDA prior to the manufacturing and selling of tobacco items.
FDA officials say they have issued hundreds of warning letters since 2021 about the situation. None of the six producers have commented on the injunctions.
