Local hosts informal city council candidate forum
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The candidates for Yuma city council are setting up to meet and mingle with locals during an informal forum at the America First Resource Center.
No rehearsed answers and no pre-submitted questions.
The event’s vision is for the community to feel more connected with their elected officials.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sit down and meet with candidates in a more personal manner, with the candidates not being prepped for any questions that come their way.
One council member, Gary Knight, says he’s looking forward to having one-on-one time with locals.
“I’m a full-time council member and I work for them," said Knight. "I don’t have a day job; I’m retired so I get to do full-time. I’m always available, my doors always open.”
Candidate Arturo Morales says he’s ready to talk about supporting local businesses and finding ways to bring new ones to town.
“Family is always important for everybody, local education, how Yuma looks drawing businesses to the community but making sure that local businesses are also flourishing," said Morales. "So, I just want to make sure Yuma not only takes care of its current businesses but also attracts the right businesses to our community.”
A total of three city council seats are waiting to be filled.
The general election is on November 8th, make sure you’re ready by checking your voter registration status.
