Rural Metro Fire quickly controls structure near Julieanna’s Cafe

YCSO and Rural Metro on the scene of a structure fire behind Walmart on Avenue B

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA/KECY) - Rural Metro Fire received a structure fire call around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday behind Wal-Mart on Avenue B in the area near Julieanna's Steak and Seafood in Yuma.

According to Rural Metro Chief Martin Mendez, he doesn't know what caused the fire but when they arrived on scene, three power lines were on fire. APS had to turn off power in order for Rural Metro Fire to enter the structure to put the fire out.

Rural Metro and the Yuma County Sheriff's office also conducted a body search within the structure as they were alerted that squatters were possibly living in the building.

Chief Mendez confirmed the fire was quickly controlled and no victims were found inside or in the nearby area.

Rural Metro is staying on the scene to make sure no hot spots flare back up.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
