Child killed, four others hurt in school bus crash in Arizona

(KYMA, KECY/ AP News) - A child was killed and four other people were seriously injured Sunday in a school bus crash that was headed for a field trip.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said 19 people were on the bus around 9 a.m. when it was hit from behind by a semi-truck on interstate 40 near Sanders.

DPS said the semi-truck hit the school bus and the impact pushed the bus into a van.

DPS didn’t immediately disclose the name and age of the child who died in the bus crash or information on the four injured people.

What they do know is that the bus was transporting a group of staff and students from Holbrook Indian School on a field trip to Window Rock, New Mexico.

A statement coming from the Holbrook Indian School's Facebook page:

"This is a very sad day for the Holbrook Indian School community... We ask that you would be patient and respectful as we work through this as a school community, and we solicit your prayers on behalf of everyone impacted by this tragedy."
