Six city San Luis council candidates head to general elections

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - San Luis has finalized votes for its new mayor, Nieves Riedel, now the race continues for the San Luis city council.

The six candidates have split into two groups of three ahead of the state general.

Tadeo De La Hoya, Maria Cruz and Mario Buchanon Jr. have the top three most votes and are in one group.

With the other three being Lizeth Servin, Javier Vargas and Nydia Mendenhall.

Leading candidate with over 1,000 votes, Tadeo De La Hoya, hopes to plan a political debate to further inform the people of San Luis about their local politicians.

“I think a debate would be really great for the candidates that are left and going off to the general elections so that we are able to present our proposals and prove what we have done and what we can get done by working together," said De La Hoya.

Candidate Lizeth Servin almost didn’t make it to the general election and recalls how she felt when she found out she was advancing.

“I felt so much gratitude and so much happiness inside of me because I said, wow, I mean this is another opportunity that I get to really serve my community and really go out there and talk to them and see how we can work together and bring new things to the community," said Servin.

She also says she looks forward to working with San Luis’ newly elected mayor Nieves Riedel on all proposals.

Servin is jumping at the opportunity to reach out and meet even more San Luis locals to inform them of future proposals and have a bigger voter turnout in November.

“We will be visiting a lot more people this time," said Servin. "Knocking on doors, putting more information on social media, talking more about our proposals. We already put up some signs and we’re working on our social media page. I mean we’re just running with it, we’re running.”
