Highway Patrol: One dead in car crash after driving at ‘unsafe speed’

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Department of California Highway Patrol says one person died in a car crash on a rainy day.

At about 7:15 p.m. on July 25, a Chrysler was driving at an "unsafe speed" on Interstate 8 near Inkopah Road, according to Highway Patrol.

An investigation showed the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a guardrail, overturning on the shoulder.

The two occupants in the car were to UCSH medical hospital but the 23-year-old woman in the passenger seat had fatal injuries.

Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation but says both people had their seat belts on and alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
