Agents arrest man attempting to smuggle illegal drugs in gas tank

SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - US Customs and Border Protection says a man was arrested at the Highway 86 checkpoint for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs.

At about 5:20 a.m. on Friday, Border Patrol agents stopped a Chevrolet Silverado when a K-9 Detection Team alerted the group about something in the vehicle.

Agents noticed the gas cap of the vehicle was clean and they used a scope to find meth in the gas tank.

The 55-year-old driver was then arrested and the meth was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
