January 6th select committee to hold first primetime hearing Thursday
(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - The January 6th Select Committee will hold its first primetime hearing where it is expected to reveal new evidence that puts former President Donald Trump at the center of the efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
The hearings are set to take place over the next few weeks and will include both live witnesses and records of over 1,000 individuals who were interviewed over the course of the investigation.
And more than 140,000 documents have also been collected.
The live witnesses are expected to give an account of their experiences on January 6th, including what they saw and heard from the rioters.
A documentary filmmaker who recorded movements around the Capitol the morning of the riot and captured the first minutes on film will also be among those witnesses.
According to a committee aide, the goal of the committee is to provide the American people with answers about the January 6th insurrection.
Thursday night, they'll begin to detail what they've described as a months-long conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election that culminated in a deadly attack.
