Alleged human smuggling kills three people following a high speed chase

ELOY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A high speed chase ended in three people dying in a crash on I-10 in Phoenix.

Several others are injured, and now Homeland Security is investigating it as a possible human smuggling.

Authorities said a trooper attempted to stop an SUV for an unknown violation near eloy.

The SUV hit a tractor-trailer head-on after failing to yield. 

Officials said eight people were in the SUV and three people are confirmed dead.

DPS said two people died on scene and another died at a local hospital.

Several people were ejected during the crash.

Those who sustained injuries have been transported to area hospitals.  

DPS said Homeland Security was called to assist with the investigation.
