Crash on First Street leaves one person wounded and another dead

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County Sheriffs Office says 43-year-old Maria Villa was driving westbound on First Street when she crossed the center divide for unknown reasons.

The Sheriff's office says a black Chevy Trailblazer traveling east on the same road tried to swerve out to avoid Villa's silver Lexus ES 330 but was unsuccessful.

Villa was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Trailblazer was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

According to the Sheriff's Office, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and the case is still under investigation.
