Fair Housing Symposium coming soon
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - April is National Fair Housing Month, the City of Yuma, the Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) and others are holding a virtual symposium on April 28.
The symposium will feature the tools and resources needed for selling and buying a house without discrimination, as stated in the Fair Housing Act.
The Fair Housing Act was passed 54 years ago by Congress during the Civil Rights Movement.
This marks the second time the City of Yuma and WACOG are hosting a virtual symposium after the first virtual symposium was a surprising success.
"Amazingly enough, it has been the first time that we had an attendance of 125 people that participated virtually via Zoom," said Mia Armenta, Senior Program Manager of WACOG.
The people who can attend the virtual event are tenants and landlords, homeowners, real estate agents and the general public.
In addition to the April 28 event, the City of Yuma and the other hosts are holding a May 12 virtual symposium for Spanish-speaking citizens.
To sign up, go to WACOG's website to register or tune in at www.wacog.az/live on April 28 and May 12.
